How to choose your first Forex broker
A beginner's decision process covering residence, legal entity, cost, demo practice and payment routes before funding.
Write down what you need before searching
Begin with your country of residence, the money you can afford to put at risk, the products you want to understand and the device you will use. If you are still learning, your first objective can be to understand the account rather than to deposit immediately. Write three requirements you can verify, such as an understandable fee schedule, a workable withdrawal route and support in a language you read confidently. Keep bonuses and maximum leverage outside this first shortlist. Neither answers whether you understand the agreement or can manage the product's risks.

Diagram explained
A good fit depends on your situation, not a single ranking.
- Confirm that the entity and product are available for your residence, nationality and customer category.
- Compare the full cost and money-out rules for your expected trading style and payment method.
- Use a demo to learn mechanics, then check the live terms separately. Demo performance cannot prove live execution, withdrawal reliability or suitability.
Check the company you would contract with
Read the legal company name in the registration documents, then check the relevant regulator's official register where a licence is claimed. Match the entity, number, permitted activity and website; a similar name is not enough. Group disclosures can list several companies with different scopes. Exness, for example, publicly identifies multiple international entities. Your practical question is which one accepts you and which complaint process applies. If the proposed agreement is unavailable before funding or the answers remain unclear, pause that option while you continue researching alternatives.
Understand a trade before paying for one
Use a demo environment to practise locating the contract specification, choosing a small trade size, reading margin and closing an order. Record what you expected and what the interface actually did. A demo is useful for learning navigation, but it does not prove live fills, live withdrawal reliability or your emotional response to losing real money. Separately calculate spread, commission and any overnight cost for one hypothetical trade. If you cannot explain the charge in your own words, request clarification rather than copying an account type recommended by a stranger.
Plan the exit as carefully as the deposit
Before funding, inspect the withdrawal route for your own verified account, including ownership checks, currency conversion and possible payment-provider fees. Save the relevant terms and their date. Decide how you will contact support and retain a record of any answer that changes your decision. Your final shortlist should explain why each option fits your needs and which uncertainties remain. Choosing a broker is a process of checking a service, not predicting profitable trading. You can finish the process with a decision to wait, practise more or avoid a product you do not yet understand.
