IG UK: automatic or manual conversion?
A 20-share US example shows how avoiding an FX fee can introduce minimum commission.
A different fee structure
In investing, automatic conversion carries 0.7%. Manual conversion permits multi-currency funding/trading but removes commission-free trading; US shares list three cents each with a USD 15 minimum.

Diagram explained
No FX fee need not mean lower total costs
- Assume USD 1,000, 20 shares
- Automatic: 0.7% ≈ USD 7
- Manual: USD 15 minimum commission
Small-order example
Assume a USD 1,000 US order of 20 shares: 0.7% represents approximately USD 7 conversion cost. Manual gives 20 × 0.03 = USD 0.60, raised to USD 15 commission by the minimum for that order.

No full-cycle conclusion
The example excludes selling, converting back, taxes and banks. Existing USD can change the number of conversions; do not import CFD’s 0.8% or declare manual universally cheaper.

Check the actual account
Investing on web/mobile does not mean MT4 offers the same share account. Check product, conversion setting and confirmation commission before switching; this is the reviewed UK schedule.
