PU Prime Prime: why a 0.01-lot trade can cost USD0.08

Check each trade side to understand nominal versus rounded commission.

On this page 4 sections

The important detail is in the footnote

Prime publishes USD3.50 per lot per side. Its account footnote says a 0.01-lot trade has nominal commission of USD0.035 each side, rounded by MetaTrader to USD0.04. Multiplying the nominal round-turn rate alone misses per-side rounding.

Diagram explained

Rounding each side differs from rounding the total

  1. USD0.035/side → rounded USD0.04
  2. Open0.04 + close0.04 = USD0.08
  3. 100 illustrative round turns → USD8

Check the arithmetic

Opening USD0.04 plus closing USD0.04 gives USD0.08, versus nominal USD0.035 × 2 = USD0.07. The difference is USD0.01 for the source’s round-turn example. This covers commission alone, excluding spread and swaps.

Why can many small trades differ from one larger trade?

Assuming the same rounding rule, 100 separate 0.01-lot round turns cost USD8 in commission, against USD7 nominally for the same aggregate lot volume. This isolates rounding; it does not recommend combining positions, which changes risk management.

Which account does this apply to?

This concerns Prime and the reviewed MetaTrader footnote, not automatically Cent, ECN or every terminal. Match your commission statement and contracting company. The fees page also describes Islamic administrative charges; swap-free does not mean all costs disappear.
