AvaProtect: premium, expiry and an open position
Read the AvaProtect trade-level premium and expiry workflow, including what happens to a still-open position; avoid treating paid time-limited cover as account insurance.
Protect a specified eligible trade
The AvaProtect page describes selecting an eligible FX, gold or silver trade in AvaTrade's app or WebTrader. It covers a chosen position and period, not every asset or the entire account.

Diagram explained
Check the recorded terms before acting
- One eligible trade and period
- Premium paid from free cash
- Open exposure can outlast cover
Record cost and expiry before confirming
The activation steps show the fee and expiry before completion. The premium varies with volatility, size and duration and is deducted from free cash; it is not a fixed universal percentage.
Expiry need not close the position
The provider says an open trade remains open at expiry while covered negative floating P/L is reimbursed, excluding the hedging cost. Exposure after expiry therefore needs a separate decision.
Confirm the actual displayed clock
The duration FAQ lists daily and selected shorter windows and refers to New York expiry time. Use the expiry displayed on the ticket rather than assuming a constant Vietnam conversion year-round.
