Spreadex stakes versus CFD contracts: size the units correctly
A spread-bet stake and a CFD quantity are different units; equal numbers on two order tickets can create very different market exposure.
Start with the unit
The education guide describes spread bets in money per point and CFDs in contracts. Neither format represents outright ownership of the underlying asset, even when the market name is a listed company.

Diagram explained
Equal ticket numbers need not mean equal exposure
- Spread bet: money / point
- CFD: contracts × price units
- £2 × 10 adverse points = £20 loss
A hypothetical stake calculation
At an illustrative £2 per point, a ten-point adverse move creates £20 gross loss before costs. The calculation is stake multiplied by points, not the amount of the initial deposit.

CFDs require contract specifications
For CFDs, check contract size, quotation units and currency before multiplying the price move. A share price in pence cannot be treated as pounds without converting the unit.

Compare total costs after size
The guide distinguishes spread-only spread bets from equity CFDs that can carry commissions. The FAQ’s broad spread wording should therefore not be read as a promise of zero commissions for every CFD.
