Tradu stock transfers: whole shares and fractional exits
Plan a stock transfer by security and quantity: a whole-share transfer route does not mean fractional positions can move in kind.
Start with the receiving broker
The FAQ describes outbound stock transfers through ACAT to an eligible institution. Confirm the receiving broker accepts the security and account registration before expecting a transfer to proceed.

Diagram explained
One position can require two exit routes
- Whole shares: confirm ACAT
- Fraction: no in-kind transfer
- Sale cash: settlement first
Fractional positions are different
Alpaca’s agreement says fractional shares cannot transfer in kind outside the platform. Selling the fraction and moving cash is operationally different from transferring the whole-share holding.

Split a hypothetical holding
For a hypothetical 10.25-share position, ask whether ten whole shares are eligible for ACAT and how the 0.25 fraction will be handled. This is a planning example, not approval.

Cash still has settlement steps
If liquidation is required, the stock terms’ settlement and withdrawal restrictions still apply. Read the current contract and obtain any transfer charges before committing to an exit route.
