FTMO Standard or Swing: choose for news and holding

Match the 2-Step account type to how positions survive news and market closures, then check the margin trade-off.

Evaluation permission does not carry over

FTMO exempts Challenge and Verification phases from its selected-news execution restriction. Standard FTMO Account rules can differ after qualification. A strategy that passes an evaluation therefore still needs a funded-stage compatibility check.

Choose before buying the 2-Step account type

  1. Standard base leverage 1:100
  2. Swing base leverage 1:30
  3. $3,000 notional: $30 versus $100 margin

Holding is different from execution

On restricted Standard accounts, the selected-event window covers two minutes either side, including stop-loss, take-profit and pending-order execution on affected instruments. Holding an earlier position is not the same as ensuring that its automatic exits cannot trigger.

Swing exchanges leverage for flexibility

Swing is offered within 2-Step and removes the stated news/market-close holding restrictions, subject to prohibited-practice rules. Its base leverage is 1:30 rather than Standard 1:100. Standard cannot later be converted to Swing under the opened FAQ.

Check margin with a hypothetical position

Ignoring currency conversion and instrument-specific changes, $3,000 notional needs $100 margin at 1:30 or $30 at 1:100. Lower leverage changes required margin, not a licence to risk more. Confirm the exact instrument and account before deciding.
